Born in 1944 in Caracas, where he currently works and resides, Ángel Hernández studied at the Cristóbal Rojas School of Plastic Arts in Caracas and later served as a teacher at the “Rafael Monasterios” School of Plastic Arts in Maracay for several years. “Each work suggests a kind of fracture in space, a breakdown in the apparent order of visual representation. (…) Hernández’s compositions are a distortion in our habits, a challenge to the gaze and an optical alteration of the standards of daily life. That is the retinal game. There emerges the scheme of volumes and chromatic harmonies, and they reveal to us some mysteries of the primordial matter that surrounds us.”— Humberto Valdivieso
