Willem van Weeghel

1956, The Netherlands

Willem van Weeghel is best known for his modern interpretations of kinetic art. Each animated composition captivates observers as it transforms moving elements into bold patterns teetering in the electric space between order and chaos.

“Movement is the central means of expression in my work. The changing structures appear to move in the transitional area between chaos and order, between variability and uniformity, between volatility and consistency. As a reconciliation of opposites”.

Willem van Weeghel

During van Weeghel’s studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amersfoort, Netherlands, his interest in Kinetic art was piqued. Struck by the symbiosis between art and technology, he decided to become a professional artist carving out his niche in kinetic art and has never looked back.

Influenced by modern art, it seems that van Weeghel has picked up where Piet Mondrian left off, taking the primary palette and strong geometric lines into a choreographed dance, an attempt to visualize the passage of time.
Invisible to the spectator, the movements of the objects are usually controlled by an integrated computer system using advanced and sophisticated technology.

Willem van Weeghel’s pieces have featured in St Petersburg’s Erata Museum For Contemporary Art, and can be found in multiple public, private and museum collections around the world.
