Coderch&Malavia

Joan Coderch and Javier Malavia came together in 2015 as a creative duo, uniting their refined skills, technique and ideas to sculpt large scale figurative pieces cast in bronze. The human body is at the core of the plastic discourse. A universe of meaningful forms centred on the idealised human figure. And a clear horizon: Beauty as an everyday tool.

Coderch&Malavia

Joan Coderch was born in 1959 in Castellar del Vallés, Barcelona, he graduated from Barcelona’s Faculty of Fine Art in 1984. Javier Malavia born in 1970, hails from Oñati, Guipúzcoa, later graduating from Valencia’s San Carlos Faculty of Fine Art in 1993. Upon meeting they discovered their artistic similarities, which led to their joint project that follows in the footsteps of masters such as Maillol, Rodin, Marini and Bourdelle. Part of the originality of their art lies in the way they work, since they make their sculptures four-handed, sharing in every step of the creative process. Another common denominator are the values imparted in their artistic creation, commitment to social issues such as equality, the environment and childhood.
