When I look outside, I see vast areas of green turf extending to the horizon. In Friesland the lush meadows have given way to monoculture farming. But here, indoors, in this monumental image, the wealth of biodiversity is celebrated to the full…This is a harvest festival, a manifesto and utopia all in one.

From February 13th to May 17th 2026, the work of Dutch artist and activist Claudy Jongstra and renowned Spanish fashion designer Marcos Luengo, alongside digital artist Ivan Puñal will be presented in collaboration with Villa del Arte Galleries at the emblematic Real Jardín Botánico-CSIC in Madrid.
The exhibition, Día y Noche. Ritmos del alma connects the art of Luengo and Jongstra with the world of plants in the botanical garden and will follow the rhythm of day and night. The cycle of life is all around us omnipresent in different shapes and forms; we can experience it in the ebb and flow of the seasons, or the ever-returning night and day. Plants, like all life on earth, are affected and influenced by this cycle of dark and light, and their sap flows from roots to crown following this rhythm. In a world that increasingly values efficiency and economic gain, there is diminishing space and appreciation for the time, knowledge and intuition it takes to follow and work with this rhythm.

For as long as we can remember plants have been used by mankind to produce the most beautiful colours, from the lightest and brightest yellows, greens and pinks to the deepest, darkest blues and blacks. In her work, Jongstra celebrates the whole colourful spectrum of these plants and their dyes, many of which can be found in the Real Jardín Botánico. But her art is not just a celebration of colour, it also addresses urgent themes such as ecology, the loss of biodiversity, and creates awareness about how we can revitalize rural communities and preserve natural heritage, whilst questioning issues such as waste wool and the impact on the environment.

After successfully launching his fashion career in 2001, Marcos Luengo opened his first showroom in Oviedo in 2007, followed by his Madrid location where unique and exclusive pieces are skillfully hand crafted. Luengo and his team draw inspiration from cultural and artistic richness, combining ancestral techniques with extensive research into artisanal processes. He strives to create innovative, timeless clothing that stands the test of time, using high-quality natural and sustainable materials. For this exhibition Luengo will showcase his vision for the future of sustainable textiles and has created four new garments using the biodynaminc fabrics from the LOADS Collection. LOADS was founded two years ago by Claudy Jongstra and her son Jesk Jongstra, the world’s first Demeter-certified biodynamic textile label, dedicated to producing luxury textiles through mindful ecological stewardship and ethical collaboration, without depleting resources or exploiting people.

Día y Noche. Ritmos del Alma culminates in the fusion of the fashion and art worlds, demonstrating how both can work hand in hand with our natural environment. We invite visitors to take the time and really experience the richness and poetry that working with nature’s rhythm brings us. During the course of the exhibition several talks, guided tours and educational programs will be held with a view to expand knowledge and interest in the themes raised.
