Villa del Arte is pleased to announce the solo show of contemporary artist Augustina Droze (USA, 1981). Known for her vibrant, swirling paintings, Droze uses animals as symbolic narrators of her personal lived experiences, exploring her perspective as a foreigner navigating the world’s beauty, bewilderment, and contradictions. Having spent the past decade in Beijing and now based in Barcelona, she seamlessly weaves together elements of East and West, creating a modern mythology within her dream-like compositions.

Drawing inspiration from Rococo abundance, her works confront viewers with colour, movement, and layers of meaning that reflect her own place as “the other” in an otherworldly landscape. Droze’s paintings have been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Castellani Art Museum, Banaras Hindu University as Fulbright Senior Scholar, the Beijing US Embassy as Distinguished Art Envoy, London Biennale, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, and Carrousel du Louvre.
