Victor Spinelli

USA (1966)There are very few artists that have taken one of their most famous photographs and turned it into a world renowned sculpture. The original photograph of Diver UP, taken by Victor Spinelli, in Ibiza (2005), evolved into a 12 inch sculpture in 2017 and now into a mammoth 8 meter interactive statue whose presence at Burning Man was a show stopper.

Victor Spinelli

The oeuvre of Victor Spinelli has grown from studies in architecture to photography, to painting, ceramics, graphic novels, film scripts, sculpture and now big installations. Much of his work has been profoundly shaped from his experiences of traveling through 85 countries visually documenting cultures, religions, landscapes and people, leading to countless artistic projects.

The inspiration and symbolism behind “Diver UP” refers to the combination of an industrial helmet and the feminine form highlighting the contrast of man-made versus Mother Earth.
The Goddess is freeing herself of the controlling force that has been imposed on her, a metaphor for society, history and mankind. Thus freeing the feminine goddess.

Living between New York and the Mediterranean, basing himself in Ibiza, his documentation of the Ibizan nightlife scene has since been published in his successful first book ‘Manumission Reflections’.

Spinelli has had varios commercial success among clients such as, HBO, NBC, 20th Century Fox, The Travel Channel, MusicJustMusic, Pacha, Manumission, Subliminal Records and Ibiza Rocks.
