Villa del Arte is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition of Senegalese artist Modou Gueye, whose deeply emotional and vibrant work will be presented at our gallery for the first time.
Born in Pikine, Senegal, in 1990, Modou Gueye discovered at an early age that colour could serve as a language to engage with the world around him. After training at Mo d’Art in Lomé, Togo, and participating in residencies and exhibitions across Africa, Europe, and the United States, Modou has established a path where tradition and contemporary expression intertwine seamlessly.
His figurative painting, characterised by its intense palette, draws inspiration from the nattes of Senegal, the traditional mats upon which daily life unfolds: a place to sit, to share, to dream. For Modou, these patterns are far more than decorative; they are symbols of identity, memory, and a profound connection to his heritage. Each painting becomes a space where personal and collective histories intersect, inviting viewers into the quiet yet powerful presence of each portrayed gaze.

Using acrylics and oils that flow across the canvas like pulses of energy, Modou Gueye captures universal emotions that resonate deeply: nostalgia, resilience, hope. His figures, built from delicate geometries and layered colour, speak of the beauty found in everyday stories and the quiet strength of community.
Villa del Arte invites you to discover the work of this artist, who has exhibited at Dak’Art Biennale, AfriKin Art Miami, and various leading institutions, and who now brings to Barcelona his vision of art that is at once intimate and expansive.
The exhibition will open soon at our Barcelona gallery, with the exact date to be announced shortly.
We look forward to welcoming you to experience the work of Modou Gueye, and to share in this dialogue of colour, memory, and humanity.
